Interview preparation

You have a few minutes to shape your career – no wonder interviews are intimidating!

A few people have the personality and experience to be a natural interviewee. Most of us don’t! I’ve been interviewing job candidates from admin clerks to national policymakers for 25 years – and hardly anyone gives as good an account of themselves as they might. With coaching, you can ensure you’re focused, flexible and calm for your upcoming interview. I will give you proven prompts and ideas, act as mock interviewer and provide detailed feedback for action.

To begin with, I will quickly get to know you and your situation. I’ll gather some information about the kind of role you’re looking at. Then we’ll get to work.

I always tailor coaching to the client’s specific needs and preferences, but a typical interview preparation package is:

  • Mock interview
  • Detailed feedback and needs assessment
  • Focused work to improve priority areas
  • Practising new approaches
  • Handling interview nerves and ‘brain fog’

Where possible, it’s best to spread this over 3 or 4 sessions of 45 minutes, to allow you repeated opportunities to work on your improvement areas. However, even a one-off session can help enormously.

In a rush? I can often schedule a rapid mock interview and coaching meeting at short notice, including in the evening.
